Your mobility is our number one priority. Finding an adaptive mobility chair that not only meets your needs, but suits your lifestyle can be a challenge. This is especially true when transitioning from child-sized mobility products to adult ones.
Adaptive Star is here to help!
If you’re looking for an option outside of standard push chairs, our Axiom Race Chairs offer the flexibility you need.
Axiom Race Chairs aren’t just for athletes!
Axiom Race Chairs have two base sizes and a large range of customization options.
We have five base models. If a base model and size are not what you need, we are able to build a completely custom chair based upon your needs.
Similar to the Conversion, the Adrenaline is one of our top sellers, and it can be transformed into a bicycle trailer. However, the Adrenaline is lighter than the Conversion and more competitive. It’s also a little more versatile with a removable push handle.
The Axiom Pulse is designed for long distance running and cross-country cycling. The Pulse offers a very unique seating arrangement; the seat can be adjusted at the base to transfer weight to the frame. This makes it easier to go up or downhill.
The Axiom Pulse is the chair that Shamus and Shaun Evans used most of the time to run across the US in 2015.
Axiom Racer Conversion
While the Conversion is one of our simpler models, you won’t feel limited by its practicality. The Conversion is our most ordered product by medical supply groups. True to its name, this race chair is also able to be converted into a bicycle trailer for outdoor adventuring.
The Purple Peanut
This chair can be made as either a standard Racer or as a Conversion. The Purple Peanut offers standard features like adjustable side lateral supports and hip guides, a chest harness, and a lap belt. It also offers a padded seat back and bottom cushions.
What is adult adaptive mobility?
“Adaptive Mobility'' is a broad term for products that help people with disabilities move. Our adaptive mobility chairs often serve individuals with cerebral palsy, autism, limited mobility, and those who are differently abled. At Adaptive Star, our focus is on adult adaptive mobility push chairs.
Moving into adult adaptive mobility can be complicated.
*If you’re working with a supply company or insurance, there’s certain language you should avoid.
Disability push chairs are commonly called “strollers” or “joggers.” Unfortunately, those terms more often refer to adaptive mobility products for children. To avoid complications with insurance and supply companies, we recommend:
- DON’T use terms like “disability strollers,” “special needs strollers,” “adult running strollers,” or “adult joggers” when working with insurance.
- DO use terms like “adult disability push chair.”
About Axiom Race Chairs
Because our Race Chair products are highly customizable, we often recommend them to clients who don’t fit our standard Axiom Push Chair sizes. While our Race Chairs can be used for more athletic settings, they also work well for normal indoor and outdoor purposes.
Race Chairs are built with open seating in mind, and they deviate from the typical “child stroller” design. These two changes can often help our clients feel more mature and confident.
In addition to size customization, you can purchase accessory items including:
- Positioning aids
- Front swivel wheels
Additional accessories can be selected on the product page when you order.
Financing, Insurance, & Fundraising
At Adaptive Star, we want to help you live your best life. We know financing can be a challenge for customers. Please don’t be afraid to ask for help! It’s our privilege to assist you and make recommendations. We won’t hesitate to refer you to other companies and resources, if that’s what would best serve you.
Adaptive Star works through a payment company called Affirm. Affirm can help you set up recurring payments at a lower interest rate. Please ask us if you have other financing questions. We are happy to help.
We’re more than happy to give you a quote on our Axiom Race Chairs. Please fill out the forms on our Custom Features pages. We’ll get the quote back to you within a few days with any questions and a quote.
We are not able to bill insurance directly. If you need insurance help, please contact us. We usually recommend working with a Durable Medical Equipment Company.
*You should know:
Insurance will not cover any Race Chair if it is labeled as a “disability stroller” or a “special needs stroller!”
We’ve seen this cause a lot of headache and heartache for customers. We want you to succeed. Please remember that whatever you would print off and show to an insurance company needs to not contain the word “stroller.”
Adaptive Star can help you set up fundraising platforms like CrowdRise, GoFundMe, or others. We’re also able to make a fundraising sheet that describes the product you’re looking to buy. The sheet can be useful for spreading the word to family and friends.
Again, please don’t be afraid to ask for help!
